East African Elementary Magnet School Celebrates One-Year Anniversary
In May 2023, Saint Paul Public Schools announced the opening of the nation's first East African Elementary Magnet School. At the time, the school was a mostly empty building with one staff person, the principal Dr. Abdisalam Adam. Thanks to Dr. Adam's tireless dedication and strong support from the community, the school quickly hired staff, recruited students, developed curriculum, obtained supplies, and opened its doors to approximately 200 PreK-5 students in September.
Fast forward to today, and the school is celebrating its one-year anniversary. On May 17, a celebration was held in the gym to honor the district leaders, community members, partners and families who helped make this dream for a school a reality.
Dr. Adam and the staff of EAEMS would like to thank the staff, parents, students and community members who have supported the school and are working to build on the momentum for next year, when the school will add sixth grade.
