Grant from Minnesota Historical Society Helps Translate Books to African Storybook Platform

Saint Paul Public Schools was awarded a grant by the Minnesota Historical Society to translate books on the African Storybook platform in Somali. In partnership with non-profit group SABIER, a group of SPPS Somali staff translated 57 books over the summer, and they are have now been uploaded on the African Storybook platform, which is a free, open access resource with books in African languages.
People can access the books here. The goal was to support all Somali students and families with access to Somali texts to support language preservation. In addition, we are also supporting the READ Act by providing texts in students' native languages.
These publications were made possible in part by the people of Minnesota through a grant funded by an appropriation to the Minnesota Historical Society from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
